Ergonomics OHS

Nokia Business Innovation Award

Marnie Douglas, Ergoworks Physiotherapy and Consulting, Sydney.

Marnie Douglas founded Ergoworks, a physiotherapy clinic at Circular Quay in 2003. After treating many patients with injuries related to poor ergonomic (workstation) setup, the physiotherapist expanded her business to include a national ergonomics consultancy that assists companies to manage staff wellbeing. Ms Douglas has developed an online workstation assessment tool, ErgoAssess, to determine the risk of injury for people using a computer and therefore minimise workplace injuries and absenteeism.

Ergoworks is a team of specialist physiotherapists and consultants that customise ergonomic education and training programs as well as implementing ergonomic software within organisations.

Our focus at Ergoworks is to minimise the risk of injury to employees. Our consultants that are based nationally are able to evaluate your requirements and build successful, proactive ergonomic programs to suit your needs.

How safe are your workers from home?

Employers across the nation are concerned about a recent courtcase regarding people working from home. Companies need to be aware that employees working from home pose a risk to their organisation if not set up correctly. There are serious implications for employers Australia-wide if they do not implement home working safety procedures.

Could you guarantee every one of your home workers has an ergonomic chair and adequately sized work surfaces or a working smoke detector? Have you had all the exits and floor coverings inspected?

These are just some of the requirements that must be met for workers at home.

Legal experts speculate employers will need to conduct workplace health and safety audits in the homes of the one-in-four who regularly work from home. We strongly suggest companies act proactively and have working from home staff assessed by a trained Ergonomist immediately.

Ergoworks is the market leader in consulting, with a national pool of trained Ergonomists at our disposal.

Ergoworks services:

1. Ergonomic Consulting

Ergoworks consultants provide expert knowledge and advice about setting up workstations both at home and in the office, choosing ergonomic furniture and equipment analysis.

Education and training is provided in a group environment or can be on an individual basis. The aim of training is for our ergonomic consultants to assist you in providing a safer working environment.

3. Ergonomic Software

ErgoAssess is the first of its kind in Australia! The web based software allows employees to self assess their workstation while at the same time; management has access to over 12 different reports. Modules to the software are workstation assessment, manual handling, OHS issues and safe driving.
