Ergonomic Eye Exercises
We all know how important it is to keep your body fit by exercising, but did you know you can exercise your eyes too?
Sitting in front of a computer all day can lead to eye strain, tired eyes, blurred vision or headaches. Following these simple eye exercises can help to relieve or prevent some of these symptoms.
- Gently close eyes (not screwing eyes shut) Remain closed for 3 seconds then open for 3 seconds. Repeat x10
Repeat more quickly, blinking lightly.
- Close your eyes. Imagine a clock face in front of you, with your nose at the centre. Move eyes slowly and smoothly up and down (12 – 6), side to side (9 – 3) and diagonally (11 – 5 and 7 – 2) Repeat each movement 3 times. Now move eyes slowly around the entire clock (12 – 1 – 2 – 3…) then reverse the direction (12 – 11 – 10…)
- 3Close eyes and gently place palms of hands over eyes, completely blocking out the light. Breathe slowly and deeply for 30 seconds.
Other tips to remember include:
- Take regular rest breaks from sitting at your desk
- Stretch your neck and shoulders to relieve tension
- Make sure your computer monitor is positioned correctly, it should be at arms distance away and your eye level should be at the top 1/3 of the screen
